What this test measures

The Number Memory Test measures digit span, the amount of verbal-numeric information you can hold in immediate memory. A number appears once, disappears, and you reproduce it. Each success adds a digit.

Digit span has been measured since 1887 and remains a core index in cognitive assessment. Most adults hold five to nine digits. Higher scores usually come from chunking: grouping digits into larger units.
